David Lloyd (Skellum)

David was born and raised in South Africa where he started painting at the age of ten. David established himself in South Africa as the yougest exhibiting artist with the Natal Society of Art in Durban with his first one man exhibition of oil paintings at age 13. David first used an airbrush at age 17 painting customized graphics on surfboards. David emigrated to Canada in 1979 at age 18. In 1981 David teamed up with the now owner of Seaward Kayaks to open the well remembered, legendary, Phantasia Auto Body and Custom Paint Shop in Abbotsford, BC. The shop specialized in custom vehicle painting, murals and prize winning show cars and established itself as a leader in the industry. Vehicles built and painted by Phantasia regularly showed up in the Vancouver - Seattle car show circuit. The shop succumbed to the 1980's recession and both partners went their respective ways. Since then David has diversified his talents to include sandblasted and hand carved signs and graphic arts including designing brochures, developing advertizing packages and designing logos. David never stopped persuing his passion for painting bikes and show vehicles. At one point this included custom work on hundreds of Kayaks. David has developed extensive experience in the automobile and motorcycle customizing industry. David, also known by his South African nickname; Skellum, has award winning paint on motorcycles and vehicles across the US and Canada. In addition to custom vehicle painting David has done artwork for companies as diverse as West Edmonton Mall, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, NASA, Dole Pineapple, and Fox Studios.
